Filmuseum Potsdam

Filmmuseum Potsdam

The permanent exhibition tells the story of the world’s oldest film studio in Babelsberg, the UFA, with a special focus on the DEFA years between 1946 and 1992. Films made in the GDR were not solely crude works of propaganda, Many subtly portray various aspects of the society, preserving ideas and images, reflecting political conflicts, life’s sensations and everyday life in a totalitarian system. Striking connections between contemporary and film history emerge, even though artists were not allowed to show everything that they wanted. Special exhibitions complement the permanent exhibit and reveal more extensive perspectives of contemporary history.
